Driving a car seems to be the most banal thing to do, but at a closer look, cars are carriers of embodied ideology that are deeply shaping our thoughts, feelings, and routines. At the same time their are an expression of our deep alienation from nature and from one another. This paper demonstrates how deeply the car culture has infiltrated our thinking by analyzing interviews with car sharing users how manage to get away from car ownership - only with a lot of effort and pain.
