Limits of Moralisation

Activity: Talk or presentationResearch Presentation

Description

In the debates on polarisation, more morality is often seen as a solution. My presentation aimed to argue that this is not always, and not necessarily true. I argue that moralisation can lead to more, not less polarisation in society. Moreover, progressive researcher are sometimes unaware of their societal impacts their own research can have, thus we must not only be sensitive to moralisations from the right (which are clearly visible), but also from the left. The paper argued that while some degree of moralisation might be unavoidable, it is advisable (especially in times of increased polarisation) to avoid it as far as possible and try to express the findings in a more objective, functionalistic or legal language.
