Doret de Ruyter is Professor of Education at the University of Humanistic Studies since 1 June 2018. Before that time she was Professor of Philosophy of Education at Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam for 15 years.
She defended her PhD dissertation at VU in 1993, where she continued as part time postdoc and lecturer for the Hendrik Pierson Chair for Religious Education. She also worked in the domain of youth care as a project leader at the Netherlands Institute for Care and Welfare.
In the beginning of 2000 she moved to Glasgow where she worked for almost four years as (senior) lecturer at the University of Glasgow.
