Personal profile
Henk den Uijl conducts research and teaches at the intersection of philosophy, organization studies, and public administration. He does so with both seriousness and humor. Within his chair in the Philosophy of Governance and Public Policy, he focuses on virtue ethics, particularly on practical wisdom in governance and policy. He completed his PhD at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in 2022 on these themes, with a specific emphasis on supervision and governance in the healthcare sector.
He is also co-dean, senior researcher, and lecturer at the Netherlands School for Public Administration (NSOB). In his teaching, he is primarily active in executive and post-academic education. Previously, he worked as a philosophy lecturer at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and as an adviser to the Dutch Association of Supervisors in Health and Welfare. This allows him to keep one foot in administrative and governmental practice and the other in academic research.
