Description
The COVID-19 pandemic led to sweeping crisis policies. From an ethical perspective, three urgent issues now require attention: 1) Guiding policy concepts have been morally fleshed out in a non-transparent or non-considered way and linked to fragments of ethical theories that are at odds with each other; 2) The impact of the pandemic and the policies implemented have brought new attention to the (political) importance of 'caring' for 'living together': What this means for the future design of society has not yet been thought through; 3) Vulnerable groups have been particularly affected by the crisis response and often have been given the floor late or not at all.
The purpose of this research is to use (a) a broad ethical analysis and evaluation of the policy choices made in the COVID-19 crisis, (b) to arrive at an ethically supported and stakeholder-supported policy framework for a caring society that is resilient enough to deal with future crises.
