Description
Over the past few years, there has been much debate in Dutch society and politics about the education system and the quality of the qualifying, socializing and person-forming function of education. Central themes in this debate include countering inequalities in education, strengthening citizenship education, and clarifying (and possibly revising) the current freedoms and responsibilities of schools, as enshrined in Constitution Article 23. This study focuses on the latter theme, and the relationship between the "freedom of education," educational equity and the quality of education. The research thus complements a recent study by the SCP (2021), which examined the current state of institutional and social segregation of students from different social backgrounds, and its impact on the quality of education.
