Project Details
Description
In the municipality of Utrecht, despite investments, there is still educational disadvantage. Children perform lower than might be expected based on their intelligence, because they grow up in unfavorable circumstances. A successful intervention to reduce educational disadvantage is the after-school Brede School Academie (BSA) in Utrecht, which focuses on vocabulary development, reading comprehension, academic skills and increasing knowledge of the world.
With the Werkplaats Onderwijsonderzoek Utrecht Gelijke Onderwijskansen (WOU-GO) we now want to apply the effective elements of the BSA in schools to (existing) interventions for reducing language deficits. We do this in a research collaboration between language/reading coordinators and researchers, in accordance with the working method of the Workshop Educational Research Utrecht (WOU-Kern) with which many positive experiences have been gained.
