In the prevalent talk of our need for workviews it is sometimes forgotten that worldviews can be deeply ideological and relativistic. Therefore it is important to keep in mind that one of the most substantial followers of Dilthey, next to Husserl and Heidegger, was the sociology of knowledge developed by Karl Mannheim (which was congenial to Pierre Bourdieus later adaption). Mannheim allows to fully acknowledge intellectual pluralism without falling into the trap of cultural relativism and a blind social constructivism.
